Dubai is a city that effortlessly combines modern luxury with rich cultural heritage. Located in the United Arab Emirates on the southeastern coast of the Persian Gulf, Dubai is a global city and business hub that attracts millions of tourists each year. Whether you’re on a layover or a just a short trip, you can still experience the best of what Dubai has to offer.

Practical Tips for Your 24-Hour Visit in Dubai
Currency
The currency in Dubai is the UAE Dirham (AED). Credit cards are widely accepted, but it’s always good to have some cash on hand for small purchases and tips.
Dress Code
While Dubai is quite liberal compared to other parts of the Middle East, it’s important to dress modestly, especially in public places and religious sites. Opt for light, breathable fabrics to stay comfortable in the heat.
Safety
Dubai is one of the safest cities in the world for tourists. However, it’s always wise to stay aware of your surroundings and follow local laws and customs.
Language
Arabic is the official language, but English is widely spoken and understood, especially in tourist areas.

Getting to Dubai
By Air
Dubai International Airport (DXB) is one of the busiest airports in the world, serving as a major hub for international travel. Most major airlines offer direct flights to Dubai from various global cities. The airport is located just 15 minutes from downtown Dubai, making it incredibly convenient for travellers to get to and from the city on a day trip.
By Road
If you are already in the UAE, you can easily drive or take a bus to Dubai. The city is well-connected by highways, and the drive from Abu Dhabi, for example, takes about 90 minutes. If you plan to visit from Abu Dhabi you should read this post to find all the information you need.
Getting Around Dubai
Public Transport
Dubai has an efficient public transportation system, including the Dubai Metro, buses, and trams. The Metro is particularly useful for getting around the city quickly and is really affordable.
Taxis and Ride-Sharing
Taxis are widely available and relatively inexpensive. Ride-sharing apps like Uber and Careem are also popular and convenient options for getting around. What you should know is that you can’t get the Uber anywhere, there are special locations around the main attractions where they are allowed to stop.
Rental Cars
Renting a car is an option if you prefer to explore the city at your own pace or if it’s your favourite way of moving around a new destination. But it is not really what I would recommend for a 24 hour trip since looking for parking spots, restrictions and heavy traffic at peak hours is kind of tricky for such a short time, but again if it’s something that you enjoy you could consider it.
