Nestled between Europe and Asia, this vibrant metropolis is a melting pot of cultures, histories, and flavors. Which makes it an absolute must-visit for every wanderer out there! Rich history, bustling markets, culinary delights, breathtaking views & warm hospitality await. Here’s why Istanbul should be high on your travel radar.

Istanbul wears its history on its sleeve. Take, for instance, the awe-inspiring Hagia Sophia, a marvel of Byzantine architecture that has stood for over a millennium. This magnificent structure, originally a church, then a mosque, and now a museum, offers a glimpse into the city’s transformative past. Don’t miss the intricate mosaics and the massive dome that seems to float above you—a feat of ancient engineering. Visit early in the morning to avoid crowds and have a moment to take in its grandeur.

Wander through the corridors of the Topkapi Palace, where Ottoman sultans once roamed amidst lavish courtyards and exquisite treasures. I actually bought a lot of types of tea, like ginger and rose from here, which I definitely recommend you to do. You won’t regret it. If you’re a fan of Turkish coffee, this is also the perfect place to grab some freshly ground beans to take home.

It’s stuffed mussels filled with spiced rice, sold by vendors on almost every street corner.

Treat your sweet tooth to a mouthwatering selection of baklava, lokum (Turkish delight), and künefe (a cheese pastry soaked in syrup). For dessert with a view, visit a café along the Bosphorus and enjoy these delights while watching the sun set over the water.

For those with adventurous taste buds, try kokoreç (seasoned lamb intestines) or işkembe çorbası (tripe soup)—beloved by locals and a testament to Istanbul’s rich culinary diversity. I didn’t feel that adventurous to try these, but my friends did and they were actually impressed.

Climb to the top of the Galata Tower for panoramic views that stretch as far as the eye can see. The observation deck is a popular spot, so plan your visit during early morning hours or right before sunset for the best photos.

Or hop on a boat cruise to admire the city’s skyline from the water. For a more off-the-beaten-path experience, head to the Pierre Loti Hill café and soak in the breathtaking vistas while sipping on a steaming cup of Turkish tea.
