What to know before going to Dubai

Dubai is one of the seven municipalities comprising the United Arab Emirates. Situated southwest of the Arabian Gulf, the city needed to re-invent itself, after oil was discovered in the region. Since then, this city turned itself into a cosmopolitan city of diversity. But what do you need to know before going to Dubai?

Dubai has been known for the past years for the world-class infrastructure, excellent public transport, and connectivity. Innovation is the word that describes this city the best and you can say that it is a traveler’s dream. If there is something you have in mind doing during your vacation, you can definitely find it in Dubai. Starting with those that come for its constant sunshine, amazing beaches, luxurious spa breaks or those who are looking for some fun experiences. And you can always check places like the biggest water parks, skydives or desert safaris.

The city has something unique that attracts you. And once you get there you will feel like you never want to leave.

WHY CHOOSE DUBAI

Why choose Dubai? First of all because it also one of the safest cities to go as a tourist. And second, if you love to visit gourmand places this is the one for you. One of the benefits of having such a huge ex-pat population is that it will offer one of the most diverse eating out choices.

Even if the UAE is a Muslim country, it’s not as conservative as you would expect it to be. You can dress as you would if you visited another city. Just keep in mind not to overexpose your body. But you can go to the beach and you wouldn’t need anything to cover up. The only thing that you need is to pay attention to the expression of affection in public. That is considered inappropriate even if you think that is just a hug or a kiss.

GETTING THERE

Flying to Dubai is a breeze with its well-connected Dubai International Airport (DXB). I was impressed by how many direct flights there are from major cities around the world. Make sure to check if you need a visa before you travel. Many nationalities can get a visa on arrival, but it’s always best to double-check to avoid any surprises.

SAFETY

Dubai is one of the safest cities I’ve visited. I felt comfortable exploring the city at all hours. Crime rates are very low, and the city is well-policed. However, it’s still wise to take standard precautions, like being aware of your surroundings.

WHEN TO VISIT

A lot of people are concerned about the best time to visit Dubai. I can tell you that you can visit anytime. Many people recommend avoiding summer, but that actually depends. Since everybody is looking to visit in the winter months, you can guess that it will get crowded.

I visited Dubai in December for the first time, since I was scared about the heat. The second time in July. And I can tell you I loved it more in the summer. Even if the temperature is lower in December, the humidity is higher. In winter months the beach and the restaurants are always crowded. And that is why I chose to go in the summer the third time. You can do the same activities as you would in the winter. You can walk outside, except for 3 or 4 hours at noon. But that gives you the best opportunity to visit some of the indoor places that Dubai has to offer.

So if you need a destination for this year, why not check out Dubai?

Whether you’re marveling at the architecture, shopping, or exploring cultural sites, Dubai is a city that offers a unique and unforgettable experience. Enjoy your trip!
